Riding an elephant is the most practical method to reach the gem mines from Namya township and local depot.

Gemstones are recovered from the alluvial gravels utilizing the traditional Thai-modified pulsating jig.

Rubies, pink sapphires and spinels are the most common gemstones found at Namya.

Red spinels from Namya. Some of these stones may contain beryllium and other "light" elements.
