Finally, the heat-treatment of synthetic ruby & sapphire is here...! Flux-grown synthetic rubies using the Kyropoulos process have been treated by inducing rutile "silk" similar to those found in the natural untreated rubies. The treatment is irriversible, permanent and detectable by experienced gemologists. Some of these stones to 3 carat size are already in the USA market and sold without disclosure.
