maxxiLEDscope gemological microscope

GEMLAB's maxxiLEDscope is the first microscope of its kind built specifically for gemological applications designed by Ted Themelis, a veteran in gemological instrumentation since 1979.

LED SYSTEM. The maxxiLEDscope uses revolutionary, energy efficient, highly reliable, ultra compact Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) having considerable advantages over the conventional light. LEDs are made from premium semiconductor parts having life expectancy 100,000 hours. The LEDscope never gets hot because LEDs are virtually heatless, without producing the familiar yellow tinge commonly in other microscopes. The LEDscope's digital lighting system is designed, configured and assembled in two separate modular electronic printed circuit boards (PCB), without transformer or other mechanical parts. The LEDscope is virtually maintainance free because there are no bulbs or other parts to replace. The LED system provides electrically noise-free, stable, free of spikes and flickers lighting environments, substantially reducing the eye fatigue.

MICROSCOPE BASE: Ergonomically designed aluminum casted, low-profile, slick base equipped with a tilted mechanism and mechanical lock for most comfortable position that allow the gemologist to work for hours without posture fatique. The base can also swivel if desired. The base is ergonomically designed, occupying minimum desk space (only 18 x 28 cm), thus providing extra workspace for the gemologist. The upper base is painted white, the bottom in black.

OPTICS: Best quality Chinese-made stereo-zoom optical pod with zoom ratio 0.75-5X; individually adjustable diopter eye-tubes. Super wide field 10X eyepieces with high-relief (for glass wearers), field of view 23 mm at 10X provides zoom magnification 7.5-50X. Depth of field at 7.5X is ~3.8 mm. Working distance is 104mm. Magnification can be extended to 100X with additional 2X auxiliary lens (included).

FOCUSING MECHANISM: Universal rack and pinion microscope arm is equipped with non-sliping clutch with two indepentent focusing mechanical knobs (fine and coarse), exclussive feature of the maxxiLEDscope, critical in observing mineral inclusions in gems; working distance is 104 mm. The optical pod swivels 360° around the microscope arm holder.

DARK FIELD ILLUMINATION: The dark field effect is achieved using 32 high-intensity LED's with color temperature of 5500°K-6000°K; variable intensity control produce superb lighting environment.

OVERHEAD ILLUMINATION: Two indepentent types of reflected LED illumination are provided both housed in drum-type overhead adjustable fixture: a) daylight with color temp. of 5500°K-6000°K and b) long wave ultraviolet (390nm) illumination. The intensity of either LED type is controlled with a variable dimmer and it is indicated by a dual-function pilot light (red for daylight, green for UV).

INCIDENT ILLUMINATION: Three incident LED light guides are provided to be used as light source for pinpoint illumination for differfent applications: White (color temp. of 5500°K-6000°K) for microscopic observations and microphotography, simulated sodium light (590nm) for refractometer readings, and Ultraviolet (390nm) observations. Each incident LED is fixed to to a self-supported gooseneck arm and fitted into one of the two USB plug & play ports provided in the microscope base. This type of incident LED illuminates the gem in any position with different lights, thus eliminating the need for the traditional transmitted light.

MAGNETIC GEM HOLDER: Innovative wire gemstone tweezers set on magnetic post. The wire tweezers hold the gem effordesly abd securely for maximum manipulation. One gem holder and one post is provided mounted on the right side of the miscope stage. Upon request, it can be mounted on the left side.

POWER (MAINS): Voltage (110-220Vac) is selected automatically; plug and cord is located opposite to the gemologist’s sitting position. Safety 1A fuse is provided. The maxxiLEDscope can be used anywhere in the world without adapters.
